Tools needed:
Electric hot knife or dremel
7MM Socket + Driver
Cabin Air Filter
Retrofit Door (can be purchased through us)

First Remove the passenger side kick panel by remove the 2 7MM screws.

You will notice an area to the left of the blower that has a flat surface. That surface you need to cut out as shown in the picture below.

Then insert your filter (its a little bit of a pain to get it in there but you just have to force it)
and slide the door into the slot in the back and insert the 7MM interior screw.

Reinstall the kick panel and you are all set!

For anyone who has doubt on doing this. This was my filter after I did the retrofit 7 months ago.

about what? these trucks do not come with a removeable filter...you mod the housing, remove filter, replace, put new door on, screw tight, then drink a beer

Rumor has it, they stopped because people were neglecting them anyway, and it was just cheaper to stop producing them as so, and started just making them enclosed. If this is so, it baffles me how they considered this to be a smart move. A filter traps foreign objects, it will get dirty, and will need to be replaced, why make it so difficult to do so? To make a few extra bucks?

Of course, right after I bought an entire lower cover from a 99 to retrofit on mine. Lol. 99-02 actually stacksh2 filters. Not enough room on these?

I was told same a Jared. No one paid attention and it was an easy way to reduce maintenance and cost of production.

cant really tell what needs to be cut but im sure i could figure it out. the problem i see with the cover yall are selling(if i understand how it works which i may not) is if its not cut right the cover wont fit. maybe make it a 15$ mod. throw a template in there so people actualy know where to cut and all fitments will be the same. i may look into doing this mod. seems like its gonna be just get under there and go at it.

Problem is your not going to be able to throw a template up there to cut. Theres VERY limited room. Jared is going to take some pictures of what it looks like without being cut. What I did was cut a majority of the plastic away and sand the rest down with the dremel.

I cannot figure out why GM even did away with the filters. My 01 has it from the factory, and I replace the filters every summer. I told Gannon about this as his AC was blowing pitifully weak. Hopefully he replaced his filters by now.

Ye, change mine out last night, didn't make that big of a difference. Never even heard of this till Scotty told me. Something I will keep up with on a yearly bases now though.
