The cracked dash on the GMT-900 (2007-2014) Trucks and SUV's seem to be a common problem. When many try to get this problem fixed it is very hit or miss when it comes to GM wanting to help and many times they don't acknowledge it as a problem or leave you footing the replacement bill, and if your lucky your dealership will help out somewhat.

There is currently a class action lawsuit being formed but due to the GM bailouts it is only for 09'-up so those of us "fortunate" enough to buy in 07-08' are left kicking rocks.

This thread is available for all discussion on the matter, things you might have found out, pictures of your dash, things you might have found that work to get it replaced, and just whatever you find necessary.

Hopefully it'll increase some site traffic as well and get more of the word out on this problem.

There is also a facebook page GM Yukon and Tahoe cracked dash that has lots of information if you want to join and find out more.

I'll start with pictures of my dash. First crack happened at 5X, XXX miles and as many know most of us around here keep our rides pristine. Second just popped up yesterday at 71,567 miles.

You guys keep citing mileage as an indication of age.
Ex, my 04 has 69k miles, my 06 ford has 271k miles.
At the end of they day, some of your guys trucks are still 7yrs old, and mileage is not a factor of the cracked dash..but age is..

Who would have thought that, J.mo of all people would pop up in a thread with a statement like that. Have you researched the issues? Please elaborate on your statement. My truck is a 2008. I referenced miles it happened at as simple a reference, not that because I had XX,XXX miles is the exact reason it happened or because I have XX,XXX miles my truck is this old.

There have been 2012's and 2013's with 10-15K miles with the problem as well as far back as 07's-08's with the same mileage that had it happen back then. Several people have also made it 100,000 plus miles on 2007 models before problems occurred. Obviously there is a defect in the plastic, the construction, or something along with other variables that cause it to break. At the end of the day though it's still a known problem.

Dude, he stated the mileage it happened at. Not that it was an indicator... :scratchhead:

Exactly....

I'll add in. Not sure when it happened, but I noticed this one on my moms 08 avalanche a couple months back. Don't know that they have tried to get it fixed or not though.

Edit: Couldn't find the pic, but its in the same spot as smith's first crack.

Leave it to j.mo to sidetrack yet another thread.

Chris, have you tried talking the dealership you bought it from? Maybe they could help you out. Worth a shot.

I actually have not. I bought it from Monoco in Center and they were good about the other warranty work when it was under warranty but I'm never down that way when they are open and figure I could accomplish more in person than on the phone.

From what I've read, this is generally the case 95% of the time. On a few rare occasions GM has paid X amount and the dealership has covered the rest to where the customer hasn't had to pay anything but most times its left up to the dealership after GM offers a deal/what they will pay (if the problem is acknowledged at all)

True, but it's worth a shot. Never know.

Exactly....I've spoke with them on Twitter. Going to atleast see what happens, worst I can find out is I'll have to pay X amount and me say no since I currently can't afford much and would rather pay to buy a LTZ dash swap.

Went to dealership for my dads a while back, his was horrible. Cracked from side to side, they replaced it no problem. Lil truck has a small crack like in first pic, just haven't cared to go get it checked out. His is an 07 and mine is a 08

This is likely one of the things GM decided that 'Since this is not a safety issue, it will be more expensive to replace the dashes than the possible future sales lost due to unhappy customers'. Cant believe this was not fixed in the later years of these models, just goes to show that these were the worst fullsizes made by GM. Sorry for all you fellas having problems, thats shitty how this whole thing has been dealt with.

In my 07, I was sitting at a stoplight in the summer and heard the bitch crack. Same spot between the storage and the edge. Was highly upset. Don't have pics. It happened in '12 so truck was 5 years old. Then bought a 98 Tacoma with a mint factory dash. Was so disappoint in GM.

Old thread, why not add to it.

2009 Silverado purchased November 16, 2009. Have been the only owner of vehicle. I tend to my properties well and keep them in great condition. No abnormal conditions were seen in the life of the dashes...minus one unfaithful ex.

2009 made it to 2012 (for those who would like mileage-32,682) and it cracked. Brought it in to dealer. Fixed under warranty.

2012 (36k miles on truck)-ex spoiled whore GF pitched a fit and busted my dash while kicking her feet around.-her dad payed for it. Dealer hooked me up, he wrote check for $600 for labor and all. Only paid $55 to help pay for tech assistant that helped. (Good friends at dealer I went too.)

2015-(88,xxx on truck) dash popped the other day but I see no indication of a fracture anywhere. I hope it doesn't develop one.

And GM needs to be at fault for this. I've called about vehicles I've worked on or detailed that have had the dash issue and the dealers within 50 miles of here blow it off like its the owners problems. They see that there is no issue with the dashes it's just people being rough on vehicles.

I was also told that the cracked piece (which sometimes hangs over the airbag) is nothing to be concerned about. I have brought up the issue that the plastic can become a projectile when the airbag deploys. They say it's impossible.

Two gmt900s beg to differ sitting in our parts yard. Each with the same spot broken.
Both with the same story that in the accident it blew it off.

One owner said the piece hit the ceiling and was in his lap when he looked down.

This is a huge issue waiting to happen. GM needs to be fully responsible for this poor design.

I actually saw something about GM having a recall or "in good faith repair" about the dash my truck a 2011 with 48k miles found a crack where the air bag is. I'm not to happy about it
