Bought some cheap China China 3157 switchbacks. The amber lights up (barely) while the white is still lit and you can hardly even tell they're flashing. Any way to mod them so the white shuts off while amber is lit? Or do I just need to spend more and get some quality bulbs

The way switchbacks are supposed to work is the white is your running light and the amber is only on when the signal is activated. The white turns off when the signal is activated, so only the amber flashes.

Sounds like poor quality control on cheap bulbs. As the saying goes, you get what you pay for.

I'd recommend going with a name brand led supplier for better results.

What you described is the "Type 2" Switchback IIRC... "Type 1" Alternates between amber and white. (I may have that backwards)

Scott, unfortunately it sounds like the ones that you bought suffer from TypicalLowQualityChineseLEDBulbitis syndrome

Want solid quality and awesome customer support? https://www.theretrofitsource.com/led-lighting/led-bulbs.html :imo:

I have some cheap ass switchbacks that I bought for $3.00 and they aren't even worth the $3.00 I spent on them. They light up amber when the parking lights are on, then the white flashes on and off with the turn signal. But the amber stays on the whole time, even when the white is flashing. On top of that, a whole row of LEDs are flickering really bad. Pure fuckin Chinese garbage.

Sound like the exact ones I bought  FWIW if you take all the wire prongs and bend them opposite of where they are, then switch the bulb 180* it makes white constant and amber flash. Still doesn't save that they're next to useless though.
