Hey all. Jonathan here aka jiggie, just joined and new to the gm big vehicle world. Just got a 99 gmc suburban k1500 a week ago. Its all stock 5.7 non 3rd row sle trim. Looking foward to getting to know this beast of a vehile and doing some mods. Right now only plans are to make mechanically sound, nice stereo and dvd for the kids and some lighting upgrades ie; headlights, tail lights, interior and some aux lighting. Live in wyoming so need to be able to light up the night when im out of town. From central kansas orignally. Look foward to talking to people and learning about a vehicle ive never owned before.

Welcome man. As far as the lights go Hid and led front looks awesome on an obs. Here's a pic of mine https://flic.kr/p/keWDHc I had 5k hits and 5k led bulbs, also had all led interior lights but no pics of that. If you put led lights in your turn signals you need to go to your local parts store and get an 'ep28' flasher to prevent hyper flash

Thanks for welcome yall!! Moore i was planning on getting projector headlights and doing 8k hids and clear lowerers with switchback leds. Still undecided on led tails or not tho. Since i have the swing out doors and not the glass and hatch, i thought about shaving the factory tails and doing something custom in the doors. But thats along way off haha. Im loving this body style should have got one along time ago.

I dont use junk hids. I use the ddm 8k 55w slim kit. Amazing white light output and almost no blue. Had to replace a factory hid bulb in my toyota and thats what the dealership installed. Been hooked ever since. Never have understood the point of blue or purple hid lights

I personally dont think they are but i honestly never have seen my vehicles from the front unless im standing there. Ddm has treated me very well and has great customer service and warranty is outstanding. And considering i know nothing about the gm trucks ill proly take everyones advice and go 6k just because that's what others have.

Welcome to the forum.

Just a note though, as far as the aftermarket lighting industry goes, DDM is regarded as junk, and they're also notoriously bad for customer service. I'd also advise against a 55W HID kit in any aftermarket projector that isn't designed to take the heat from the 55W system, you'll actually bake the reflective coating OFF of the inside of the projector. Don't go any bluer than 6K, and stick to 35W.

As far as an HID kit, you'll pay a little more, but take a look at Morimoto. https://www.theretrofitsource.com/hid-systems/universal-kits.html

I've personally been dealing with the Retrofit Source for years, and I can't speak highly enough about both the product they produce, as well as the customer service they provide.

The only reason you don't think that 8000K is blue, is because DDM's colours are in fact off, and 55W ballasts tend to push the colour to a "cooler" temperature, so an 8K 55W will look similar to a 6K 35W. I've heard rumours that their 4300K and 5000K bulbs are the same stock number, and their 6000K and 8000K as well. Friend of mine put 6000K DDM's in his Genesis and they were blue, almost purple. My 5500K Morimotos are a pure white.

Just out of curiosity, can you post a link to the headlights that you're looking at buying?

Wow honestly this is the first time ive had people mention this to me. Everyone ive talked to that has used ddm kits love them. I can understand what your saying about the color temp on the bulbs. Mine have always been pure white with the 8k 55w kit. Turns out it was a ddm kit that i got my mazda 6 l back in 09. I order them from the rpm store. Here are the links to the headlights i was considering for projectors and the hid kit. Im open to all suggestions for things as i know nothing about my chevy lol. As mentioned before i want the best lighting option so i can see at night. Also considered just clear headlights with good piaa bulbs or phillips bulbs and some aux lighting on the bumper.
