Been debating about upgrading trucks for awhile but now the wife went out and bought a 31ft with tongue 28 without camper. Told her if she got a camper it's time for a new truck.

I believe it comes in around 7800 loaded. Right now my '11 1500 does pretty well with it. I run about 2-25k going 60mph on flat hwy.

We rarely camp more then 50mi from home. Kind of on the fence if I really need a 2500

I don't know anyone with a newer 1500 that tows much for weight to know how they actually handle it.

I plan on putting helper bags on the rear to help level the load out a bit.

No direct experience, put my parents recently picked up a 28ft camper (thinking around 6500-7000 dry weight) and they pull it with a '16 1500 with the 5.3L without issue. They do use a weight distribution hitch with it and that makes a world of difference on its own.

No camper experience but I have towed a larger enclosed around town when moving and did fine. Also pulled my Cadillac with it and going 70-75 MPH was still getting around 12.5 MPG. I miss my diesels whenever I tow but pretty impressed with this tuck. 2015 Silverado 5.3L 4wd.

14+ will tow that camper fine. Weight distribution hitch with anti-sway is a requirement though, not an option.
