Photography Thread

Well this is where it starts to get weird and extra nerdy on my part. BUT here it goes, that birds typical range is from the central planes to the west coast. TYPICALLY they are within that range during the winter months, they migrate to the states with the cold weather. They like cold, but not winter time in canada cold. So what probably happened is that it got mixed in with a flock of birds that typically comes to the midwest during winter, plus add in the weird weather patterns we have been having with the jetstream, it got lost. This sighting today marks it as the 6th time in St. Louis one has been found. So thats cool.

That's really cool. Hopefully you get a chance to see one or two more this season then.

My brother has been using the T3i we got him for xmas a little bit. Got to get him set up with LR and Flickr so I can share his stuff. He's big into ornithology after a few courses he took last semester and over the summer at college.

Took some selfies today with my phone

Cool. Well you've seen my flickr page, share it with him for some motivation haha. its mostly birds anyway.

Buddy of mine that's a good photographer is hooking me up with a 5D MK2 and a 50mm 1.8 lens. All for 400. Just the cam and lens. Is that a good deal for me to start out in photography?

Wait, a Mark II? The body alone is worth 3x that on eBay. The 50 is ok, but need to be stopped down to get a good picture out of it.

Overall, an EXCELLENT body to get for that price. It'll be above your skill range, but you can effectively stick with that body for 10+ years easily.

It's heavily used body and lens is used to. It's literally just his backup, backup cam lol

Thats a good deal. The mkII is the kinda the "meh" version of the 5D series but it works well. the 50 f1.8 is garbage. Sell it for $90 and buy the 40 STM pancake. Better in every way. Also, remember if you buy that camera, you will ONLY be able to mount EF lenses on it. Expect to have to pay $400+ for any additional lens you get for it.

1tb with close to every a and b roll photo i've ever shot. I ditch all the c roll stuff.

fuck! i need to backup all my shit then. Flickr is the best photo site.
Imo, it is. But they don't make anything off of it, etc. And even if they sell it off, what can the new owners do to keep it going? Only way I see it staying afloat is if Google buys it imo.

I have a few 3TB internal drives for storage and a couple external drives of various sizes for back ups that only get plugged in to sync everything. I usually scoop a new external ever year and make another redundant back up, including movies, pics, documents, programs, etc.

What do you shoot with?

Some nice shots in there! I'll check them out more when I'm not on my phone.

I haven't shot much lately. Took so pics of my brother for his college graduation announcements. I'll post a few. I kind of like portrait work, but I can see how it takes a very long time to be consistently good at it.

I have a Nikon D40x, with a small telephoto, i forget the numbers off the top of my head. These are just some old shots I had on my external hard drive. I haven't shot much lately, I need to get back in the saddle.
