Radar police detector

I have a really cheap Cobra from Walmart, I think it was $35. Has some decent range and I only get false alerts at grocery stores so I can't really complain lol It has saved me countless times against the county PD, State boys use Lidar all the time though.

How fast over the limit would you have to drive for a detector to be worth it?

depends on however tolerant the cops are in your area. i dont use my detector in town, just when im on the hwys since I-5 speed limit is 70, yet the flow of traffic is 80 on a slow day

My cobra picks up the radar from the helicopters

ive gotten a plane on hwy 46. those signs that say speed limit enforced by aircraft, dont fux wit them. all though i only know 1 person who has gotten caught by a plane.

They are illegal in Canada, and how they are LEGAL anywhere amazes me.

I see so few cops on my highway trips it's ridiculous... when I'm alone going down the highway though I try and keep it under 20km over and the fuzz usually leaves me alone.

Brandons got it. They are WAY illegal. OPP have Spectre now, so its really only top of the line ones that will work.

You still can use them though Pat...wire it up to a momentary switch, and the second it goes off, shut it down. I've seen guys have 2. A very good one buried in the car with a monetary switch, and a cheapo one in the glove box. When they beam you, your going to get popped, they will know when it scrambles them. Give them the cheapo one, shut the good one down.

Penalty is $165 fine, sometimes 3 points (ive seen 2, and 0 ), roadside seizure and destruction of the radar (the cheapie one), minimum ticket of 15-20 over, (up to officers desecration) and then whatever else they want to throw at you while they got you. Usually some sort of "stunting" ticket. Can get pricey.

Never seen a plane/heli enforcing speed, and Ive seen those signs alot. How do they pull you over? :bishplz:

Also - fuck having a detector in canuckville...doesn't sound worth it at all.

LOL due, in ontario, get caught doing 50km/h over on highway and they impound the car....get caught street racing, they will CRUSH the car lol

Wow fuck Canada's laws. That shit sucks.

Street Racing Banned in Ontario Canada, YOUR CAR WILL BE CRUSHED!!!!!! - YouTube

it is what it is.

edit: there were a couple dudes that got arrested in Niagara, that part of their sentence was they had to watch their car get crushed. IIRC one of them was a suprecharged skyline :emo:

I've got a pretty sweet Cobra model with an LCD screen that will tell me the band. I also made an inviscord that gets power from the autodim mirror

Got stopped in Virginia and fgts took the detector :jester:.

IIRC Virginia is the only state that they are illegal in and they are illegal in Washington DC.

I have an escort 8500 and have the smart cord hard wired and flush mounted in my dash I can get pics when its not dark out for those that are interested.

It is really worth the extra money especially if you are on the highway a lot. They can detect multiple signals at one time. So say the POPO is parked next to a store with the automatic doors the cheapo ones will pick up the automatic doors and not even pick up the KA signal because they lock on to the first signal. The more expensive ones can pick up both signals warn you earlier about them and from multiple angles.

In the states with the speeds enforced from airplanes and helicopters sometimes they will start following you because of the small amount of signal the radar detector puts out. The more expensive ones (ie. Escort 9500) put out very little to almost no signal so you will be less likely to be hassled.

Is it worth buying a new valentine 1 detector rather than a used one?

New. The valentine one has been out for quite a few years and they have only done a handful of revisions to the product so the older ones are outdated. Not saying the old ones are a bad product they just don't have the newer revisions and compliances. and IIRC they are charging a good penny to get them updated. I heard somewhere around $150.

Most that I have seen the aircraft has a few people inside and they pick vehicles that are traveling faster than others and time them.
they then radio down to cruisers on the ground with a color and posistion of the vehicle along with time and mph and guide the officers to the correct vehicle. Around here when you see 6-10 trooper cars lined up on the on-ramp you know whats up.
