Finally got out of that Duramax and back into something that suits me better. I ended up giving the Duramax back to my father, sold his van for him, and in turn he gave me back my 85. I bought this truck 5 summers ago when I was 13, along with the 82. It sat untouched while we built my 82, which I totaled, and I ended up with the Duramax.

About a year ago we finally dug this truck up, and used the parts off of my 82 to put this one together. 5.3L LM7 and 4l60e, harness built by us, zippy tuned, Hedman headers, trailblazer converter, that's about it. Black vinyl seat I bought secondhand and had repaired, brand new black carpet, and the black OER dash out of my 82. It's dropped with a cut 3/4 ton spring, 2.5" drop spindle, and a flip kit in the rear. Eagle alloy 225 wheels with 255/40r20 and 315/35r20 Toyo proxes st II's. We rebuilt all the brakes, all new steering components, etc. the truck is identical to how it was when I bought it 4 years ago as far as the body goes, minus swapping the big step bumper for a suburban style one, and that's how it will stay, hence the name white trash.

The plans for it are to put the AC together, put a posi in the rear, and build a stereo for it, all while I fix the little issues it has. Other than that I'm just going to drive it and beat the shit out of it.

I'll get some pictures of the interior when it's clean and post them up.

Hnnnggg so much want. I'd sell my truck for a squarebody if I didn't need a backseat.

Buddy's dad's 84

I know he'll sell it to me. Just gotta find the money to buy it lol.

hng, change that grille, slam it, beat it to death.

I like the grille, there's too many 88-91 burb grilles and 85-88 dual lights running around. This ones something a little different.

Fuck yeah, squares are my favorite trucks.

:fuckyeah: body that bitch :imo:
I'll save that for another truck. This is gonna be my daily beater for a loooonnnggg time. If anything this one will have more of a "pro-touring" style to it with some beat ass patina.

Nice! Better bring that bish to the CGM meet in July!
For sure!

I've got a nasty squeak in the front suspension/steering. It happens when I hit bumps, or when I turn the wheel at all. I soaked everything in silicon spray, and lithium spray, and it didn't help at all.

Have you guys ever had a ball joint squeak? The lower ball joints on this truck are ridiculously tight, and I'm thinking it might be those. Haven't got around to greasing them up.

Another problem I need help with.

The truck has a shake/jiggle above 55 mph. I set the pinion angle parallel to the output shaft of the transmission, and it's not the wheels, because I put another set on the rear and it did the same thing. It's possible I could have set the pinion angle wrong.

Any other issues that would cause this? It's pretty obvious it comes from the rear, because it does it even when I do a burnout.

Also, I pulled the eaton posi and 4.10 gears out of storage today to get ready to have the 12 bolt built. And my axle rebuild kit came in with all new bearings races and seals. I took the breaks off the axle, and pulled the axles out and drained the fluid. Rear end should go to the shop tomorrow to have the carrier installed. When I get it back I have to cut the lead spring pads off and buy some new ones. Ill take a lot of pictures when I put this in as it will take the place of a "flip kit" and the pad will be on the bottom of the axle. I'll also wire wheel this axle and shoot it in some rustoleum etching primer and satin black. Will get lots of pictures of this. Only picture I got tonight.

Did you measure the pinion off the u joints that are fixed to the output shaft on trans, and likewise off the rear end pinion?

I took the driveshaft out and measured off the output shaft of the tranny, and then off the yoke of the axle. Probably a better way to do this..

Best way is the measure off the u joint caps. Measure the caps that are fixed to each the rear end and the trans, not the joints on angles of the shaft. Easiest way is with a shocket that is small enough to sit on the cap/clip, and put your angle finder on the bottom of the socket. As soon below

Your measurements should be equal opposite to eachother. IF the rear end u joint is +3degrees, the trans needs to be -3degrees. +7 or -7. You get the drill.

Good info, thanks. I was using a digital level and it was confusing, I'll use a dial next time.

Added the d49 mirrors to the truck, was becoming really annoying to drive without any mirrors whatsoever. Cleaned the truck up a little bit for some pictures too.

The engine bay is still filthy, I'm fighting coolant issues. Doesn't have an overflow/return tank on it and it gets hot and pukes out fluid pretty often.

Hng those are the mirrors I want. Lemme cop dat interior.

Whenever you get around to doing your interior, depending on how OCD you are, might want to stay away from the OER dash pad. I read good reviews and shit on them, but it doesn't fit all that great. Doesn't line up perfectly around the bezel and is kinda wavy along the windshield. I would fiberglass your oem one and have it upholstered. Just my .02. It's cool in a truck like mine because it looks nice, but in a show truck it wouldn't be good enough for me imo.

Brake booster is leaking bad, so brakes are getting sketchy. Oh well can't complain it's a fuckin 30 year old oem unit. New ones $30 on cock auto and ordered, Dorman brand.

Anyway, Got around to painting my calipers and cleaned some shit up.

Also spent some time polishing the front wheels while they were off, and cleaning behind them. Fuck polishing the back of them, that'd be fuckin dumb on a daily. I actually kinda want to have the back of them powdered satin black so they're easier to keep clean.
