You tuning it or getting it done by someone?
Im tuning. Havent had much time to dick with it since I got it started. Also didnt have any coolant or hoses or any of that mildly important stuff hooked up either so I couldnt idle for too long.
Not sure on exhaust. Im going to try the current mufflers and I cant remember what they were now. I didnt love them with the big block so they'll probably still suck. Maybe I'll just run open 3"
Ah I see. Kinda need all that to let it idle more than a few minutes. But hey, it started and idled, so that's a win.
Open 3" sounds great, but not all the time. Cutouts will be your friend.
Yes I know. Im not seriously going to run open headers all the time.
Well its out and about now. This was on tuesday. Im still fighting a really loud PS pump. I ordered up a flow restriction valve that will supposedly cure aeration of the fluid and quiet the pump down. idk. I went to install it and fucked up one of my super special PS pump fittings. Supposed to arrive today.
Also, the car is a doggy turd. I was blaming tuning before but I have pretty much everything sorted out with that as a base. Now Im 99% sure its the gearing. Ive been comparing this set up to my last setup. the 396 with the Doug Nash close ratio 4 speed to the LS 6.0 with the 4l80e and 3200 stall. First gear in the 4 speed was probably 2.96:1...........the 4l80e is 2.48. With 3.31 rear gear Im thinking I lost all that great low end grunt I was used to. New gears on the way.
That 80e first gear sure is a slouch. Gear down and you'll be very pleased. What are you gearing it to?
Glad to hear you got the tune pretty well sorted. Did it all yourself correct? That's one area I've yet to venture into.

Starting with 3.73. From 3.31 I should be smiling. If Im not then fuck this car Im driving it off a goddamn cliff.
Installing wb02 as well so I can verify AFR.
Ive also got a miss happening while cruising in any gear. Not sure how Im going to fkn diagnose that. Im leaning towards bad coil(s). Theyre pretty much the only thing thats not brand new on this fkn motor. I have a thermal cam here at work Im going to borrow to see if I can find anything unusual.
Shoulda gone 4.10. 3.31 to 3.73 is not a huge change. Also, check grounds. We chased a miss on a buddies truck for soooooo long and it turns out one of his grounds was just like 1/2 turn loose.
If I dont like 3.73, I'll go to 4:10. But Im only running a 26" tire and I would like to retain some cruisability.
I need a stall and gears in mine. But of course I can’t replace just the gears in mine I gotta get a different rear end
With my cam they recommend a 3200 stall minimum. And the gears in my caddy are 2.94. And of course for some reason you can’t replace the gears in the caddy so everyone just replaces the whole rear end
Ahh, wasn’t thinking about tire size too. But still. I just know ever since I had my Cobra with 4.10s and a 26” tire, I will never fear the gear again lol

Ive been on a few short drives but decided yesterday that I should try to break something so I dont get stranded anywhere. Did some wot runs. Everything seems to be functioning normally! Took a lil clip of a part throttle take off. Traction is an issue so I had to pedal it a bit but I can do standing burnout with no brakes - couldnt ever do that with the shitty old big block.
Runs great! Still open headers basically?
Now that you've done that once, wot is gonna be a more frequent thing for you lol. At least that's how it is with me.
