Been thinking of getting the wife into a newer, fullsize GM SUV again. We've had (3) NBS SUVs over the last 13 yrs... 01’ Tahoe, 05’ Yukon, and my 01’ Suburban.

She currently has a 13’ Explorer Limited which has been great in the 40k miles of ownership. I'm back to DDing my HD and am going to be selling my 01’ Burb soon. And, we're debating unloading her Explorer for a Tahoe/Suburban to pull duty as a family hauler/her DD/kid hauler to games-tournaments, etc.

Looking into finding a clean, lower mileage, NNBS (07’-14’) platform as far as the year range. We would like the newest bodystyle, 2015+. But, they are currently out of our price range. Year doesn't really bother me and mileage as well….. as long as it's in good condition and has been maintained properly.

I've never owned the NNBS platform yet… but, have had (6) NBSs and am familiar with their “problems/issues”. I wanted to hear some feedback from ACTUAL owners thoughts on these particular vehicles. NOT what you heard on forums or your Uncles cousin, step-brothers, friends, Dad's reviews……

I've read of the majority of the NNBS “issues" over the years on here/other forums….

1) Interior issues (i.e- dash cracks, interior rattles, etc)..... Do these pertain to the higher trim level SUVs as well? Or only pickup models?

2) Engine issues? AFM and DOD crap…. Lifter failure? What years are prone to this? Did all NNBS have these features or only later models? Can it simply be tuned out or is there more to it......

3) Rust? I see alot of NNBS trucks with rocker/bed rust starting. SUVs prone to rust anywhere yet? Spots to look for???

I do ALL my own repairs and am not scared to get into something with general repairs/maintenance. But, I don't wanna get into something that's a money pit and has major issues in the near future. This has to be a reliable DD for the wife/kids considering I'm the one “pushing the issue" to get her back into a GM SUV.

All nnbs dashes crack in the trucks and suvs. The afm issues I normally see are around 100-120,000 miles when a lifter craps out. I work at a small dealership. These are the main issues I see from time to time aside from basic maintenance

Thanks!

I know I can Google and probably read for days..... But, what exactly is the AFM and why does it cause lifter failures? Certain years more prone to this, or what?!?

I've seen a ton of nnbs from 07-13. In not really sure what exactly causes it. Our engine guy normally does them. I've done a dozen or so depending on what's going on at the time. I think the vlom (valve lifter oil manifold) which controls the 4 solenoids to activate the lifters fails and the lifter hesitates and gets stuck closed. Idk if that's correct but that's what I think lol

My buddy works at the dealer and has a lifter job to do about once a week. He said it could be a 2007 with 150k or it could be a 2012 Denali with 20k. He said they happen a lot and definitely said it isn't cheap to have fixed. All of the dashes crack. I have not sat in a single one that didn't have a crack in it.

I know I am looking into either a Duramax for a 2007+ Denali...after having our 2007 Suburban nickel and dime us, I am very tentative to buy a NNBS again.

Currently 62k miles on my 13 LT Tahoe. No dash cracks yet. No issues. I like it. Rear passenger door has a rattle I need to address.

I got an 07 z71 Tahoe I'll set you up with! Dash crack, canbus, little squeaky, otherwise a great runner (no afm problems). No rust because Texas! We're upgrading to a K2 Suburban.

Was wondering how you liked yours. Lol. As, I found (2) local white Z71 Tahoes.... an 11' and a 14'. But, wife now insists it must be a Burb for the cargo space. No more Tahoes/Yukons.

Thanks! Pictured yours as well..... Wife really wants white again (Exploder is white). I've read of interior rattles being a common issue.

Hmm..... :hmm: Thanks Brian! Knew you had the Burb and wondered what you thought as well.
