Harbor Freight Thread

Just went and bought two of their Composite ratchets, one 1/4" and one 3/8".
Picked them up on a recommend from another friend who is a chassis builder who said they surprised him on quality.
They seem legit! 72 points of engagement and made in Taiwan (typically a HUGE manufacturing difference than mainland China, but we'll see).
I'll try these out and if they work as good as I've been told I may go and pick up the 1/2" too and maybe spares of the others and keep them in my Sierra's tool box, for $8/each I figured the trial and error is worth it here.

Also got a 14pc metric wrench set as a spare throw around set for whenever I need multiples of the same size...
And a 2pc hook and scribe set to use on some O-rings on suspension rebuilds and injectors and things like that...

Was gonna get one of their shop roller stools too but even all the display ones seemed broken and wobbly. Figured I'd look around at other options first.

**lurks around, starts a Princess Auto thread instead**

Do it up. Harbor Freight is sketch as fuck. 189475X worse than Princess Auto. It's good for something you might use 1-2 times. First time ever being in one was a few weeks back. was like walking into the twilight zone

:roflpuke: this thread

Agreed, you think people of wal mart are bad, I'm gonna start a thread "People of Harbor Freight". Buddy and I got a good laugh

Definitely post up a review at some point of how you like those ratchets Dave. I've got Stanley's right now and they suck, I'll havta replace them by summertime for sure

Ha no shit, people watching is primo. Circus act! Never seen more people shuffling coupons (which reminds me, there are asshats on ebay trying to sell HF coupons for $$!? Anyone else see that?)
Definitely a little different vibe depending on location here in Metro Detroit though, some are crazier than others.
But don't knock some of the stuff. No joke, a lot of it is rebranded and sold elsewhere for waaay more just to people like who only feel comfortable buying in a decorated shop with logos. I used to be a complete hater too, until I realized if you choose wisely or get lucky on a gamble (with low quality control some items are lemons and some are cherries) you can still get work done with cheap shit.

I definitely will.
Biggest pet peeve with a ratchet is ones that disengage or reverse when ratcheting fast with light load. These so far do not do that.

Probably a rare sighting, just laughed to myself last night when I rolled up on this.

...and next to a STILL abandoned circuit city

Wouldnt mind picking up a bead roller or a pipe bender since they are both less than $150 and I think you could do some pretty cool shit with them

Heading there Sat to pick up the 44" bottom box. Hard to beat for $350

about to start job as a quick lube tech so I'm going to pick up a new box (probably the red 5 drawer cart) and fill it up. :happeh:

I just built up a 5drawer not too long ago.
Pretty nice piece I gotta say! Just loc-tite the heck out of everything and leave it loose until its upright and together, then tighten it up in almost a torque sequence to make sure all carriage bolts are centered and everything is square with the lid.
Got mine pretty well stocked now, gonna work on a few little mods to it still.
May pick up the HF 7 drawer side cab for it too and stash some cordless tools and other stuff in there for carting around.
Getting ready for an 80e swap and some other projects this spring and getting sick of running around my barn for tools when I get a project going.

Oh yeah, and make sure you don't pay any more than $169 for it, search garagejournal if you need codes.

Picked up the 44" tonight. Pretty happy with it. Now need to decide how to fill it and what stays in the old box

I filled up the black rolling carts super quick, i have 2 of those, and the $350 red box is soully dedicated to LS specific tools/parts. And its already full haha. Hard to beat for the price though.

Idk why there's so much HF bashing, I think their shit's pretty legit for the most part

You're gonna need more than that! I'm just a home/hobby garage guy, bought one on black friday and already need another one lol. If we had the room, I'd buy me one of the big boxes for sure, just got nowhere to put it atm

Just fyi huck, I love the composite ratchets. Have a 3/8" ive beat the shit out of and its great. hangs right alongside all the other name brands on the wall, grab it first, last to get hot/cold and more comfortable imo.

:hmm: I'll havta pick a couple up. Gotta go down there soon with pops and let him pick out his $160 worth of xmas stuff lol. Told him I'd buy him a 5 drawer cart but he said he'd rather just get more tools lol

:datgold: ...broke into the local harbor freight this morning...

Nah but seriously their power was out but they still opened. Was really weird feeling waling around trying to see shit with my phone!
They were only letting people inside one by one just so there was only one customer per worker. People were getting all worked up and pissy out in the parking lot because they had to wait lol.
But anyway I get inside and get some shit I knew I wanted, then found a open box low profile 2ton jack for 25% off, an led under hood light, a magnetic can holder, and a 7-drawer tool chest end cab.
I get up front to pay and they are doing everything on paper, and for them writing coupon codes were taking way too much time (with customers outside getting unruly) so they would just do whatever you told them. So the kid at register asks me what I want to use my coupon on and I was just like, ah well whatever is most expensive, isn't that logical? So he did, ha. So I got 25% off my tool end cab even down from sale price, even though HF never allows coupons on tool storage! Wooooot! Got free batteries too...
Stoked on life right now, lol.
Almost went back in and try same thing on the 44" tool chest but didn't want to press my luck.
