Painting exterior plastics

Hey guys. I want to paint my mirrors, door handles and tailgate handle/bezel on my 08 sierra. What I need to know is the best way to sand out the texture to make them smooth? I read that wet sanding with 180, 220 then 320 would work, anybody do it this way?

Also, my dad can paint but he has never painted anything plastic. Can we just prep it like normal and spray it? Or should we use adhesion promoter before primer? Any help and info on this will be greatly appreciated, thanx.

I did multiple grits starting with 180 to 1200. BullDog is what I used for promoter and just prepped it for paint from there. There are a few post on here that people have done theirs and give some helpful tips.

Make sure if u use bulldog that the pieces are CLEAN if not shit will wrinkle and bubble up on u. Ask me how I knw.

1200 is too fine it will stick but wont hold on great, maybe 1200 wetsanding after filler primer, but certainly not before primer. 400-600 is the finest i would ever think of going
