So I have a question for the more experienced. I am pretty new to this and need advice. I have a 91 Chevy stepside with a 350 in it and I want to upgrade to a 454. I'm not totally sure if this is possible but if it is I would like to know the best place to get a performance motor and the best way to install it

welcome to the site.

need some more specifics imo.

454/th400 and beef up the rear end. would obviously need different motor/trans mounts and exhaust. but that combo, if carb'd, wouldnt have any electronics to worry about. but just going with what's been given

You might even get lucky and score the mounts from a 454 SS in a junk yard, 14sf would be a plenty strong axle and the perches are the correct width

Nothin has been done to the truck at all its all stock. So what would be things to consider when I make this change as far as the rear end, computers, etc...

700r4 is such a confused transmission. No consistency in shifts at all. They seem to have a mind of their own. Not to mention if not properly adjusted you can burn it up fast

if your going that far a LS swap will net you more power then the choked up 454s of the 90s and better fuel mileage

the 454 and turbo 400 in my panel delivery came out of a 1 ton 89 GMC, All you should need to do is change the motor mounts and trans cross member if it don't line up.

you do realize a stock big block from that trucks era only has 255 hp from the factory. the same HP as the 350 small block of 96? only benefit was more torque.

And thats Crank HP,
